Poetical Ode to Running Buddies

by Angie on March 2, 2012

Early I rise, to the squeal of my phone

It is dark, the house quiet, but I’m not alone

Friends with new babies, tired eyes, tired feets,

Slump out of their beds, escaping their sheets

To the mantra of “fit” or “fast” or “skinny”

Take care- if you cancel they’ll call you a “ninny”

We push through the darkness, the wind, the cold

Without their smiles my will wouldn’t hold

Today, I lacked energy to push through the pedal

“Pretending the Most”- my spin class medal

I say, “I dunno why I can’t give no mo’”

Answer? “’Cause you eat like CRAP, bro!”

So true, so true.. like whatever you fools!

Huh? Whole wheat and lentils the proper tools?

Gee, I aint sure ‘bout any of that…

“Yum!” (does this cookie make me look fat?)

You are so talented! You are the second person to be inspired enough to write poetry about me and publish it…I like you tons better than I liked that guy in college. Your poetical skills are also slightly better than his.
