Why We Drive So Far… and Wagons.

by Angie on January 6, 2012

Wagons. I am always falling off of them. Four seconds after I mount a wagon? I fall off.

wagon

For example, New Year’s Resolutions: don’t they just make you feel jazzed and positive about the New Year? They are full of hope and new-found self-mastery power! (Power to the People!) And then three days later the entire world is conspiring for your failure: ie, somebody on the wagon starts talking politics and people begin pushing you off the stink-wagon just to catch some air. And you decide that you hated that wagon anyway (it was slow), so OFF you go! Yes?

I have realized that taking a two-week road trip for Christmas is a very intense experience. Unpacking from the trip? We are going on 5 days for that project at this point. The drives were successful, our hosts were MARVELOUS, the company was lovely, the events were fun and so worth the drive- but all of this adds up to an exhausted me.

Which makes it sorta difficult to be resolute about my resolutions. See?! I haven’t even blogged about my resolutions. Because I am still unpacking. And that makes me feel like a slacker. Also, I have not blogged any Christmas pictures. Which makes me feel like a failure. Because on-the-ball bloggers post those things at the end of December and then post about New Year’s Resolutions and goals and such NOW!!!! Knowing this makes me need chocolate and Diet Coke (together would be cool…), which makes me gain weight, which makes me fall off, like forty wagons at once!

Help!

Let’s back it up. Let’s go easy on ourselves here, Angies!! (I think there are perhaps 7 Angies talking in my head right now and they all need to take chill pills.)

“The mommies on the bus say SSSSHHHH SSSHHHHH SSSHHHH….”

How about we catch it all up RIGHT NOW? No more talking to myselves. I am just going to talk to you guys, get all my junk out right in this very special place called MY BLOG,  and somehow find my wagons again. GO!:

Why do we get all crazy and drive to Salt Lake City with four kids for Christmas when a Christmas at home would be lovely??

Because of THIS:
christmas 2011 collage 1
christmas 2011 collage 2
christmas 2011 collage 3

christmas 2011 collage 5

We had such a great time. We really, really love our families in Utah and we miss them dearly, especially after such a fun trip. This really, really wreaks havoc on our lives, though. We drive away from Grandma’s house to the tune of no less than 9 children scream/crying “please don’t GO!”… “I don’t want to leave!”… “Wait! I have to say good-bye to Grandma’s dog!”… etc. Serious waterworks and serious drama.

Then for 35 hours straight we think about how it would sure be nice to live closer- only to be greeted by our HOME, which we love. We park in the driveway, absolutely, ridiculously exhausted… and we see our home. And we sigh. And we love it. And we love it here in Virginia. And we see our home…

And then we try to redefine our lives. The poor Manchild—he goes back to work.

And our heads are really messed up. But that is all good and we feel very lucky to have such great family (whom we love and we know love us). Wish we were closer… Gah.

Resolutions: I have some. I am not going to tell you them yet. Because that would be weird here at in the middle of this post. Weird is SO not allowed in this post or on this blog EVER!

Weight: I gained 3.4 pounds in 3 weeks time. I went back to Weight Watchers today and tried to wrap my head around food again. This is what Charlie did while I tried to listen to my meeting leader and convince myself to actually DO Weight Watchers (instead of just showing up to the meetings):

weight watchers yo gabba gabba

Clearly, Brobee and Foofa have weight issues. Muno and Toodee are along for moral support. Plex is a magic robot and is forgetting that he is a magic robot. If I had a magic robot friend, I would just ask him to help me lose 3.4 pounds (plus a few more so that I could become a lifetime member and not have to pay my monthly fee anymore)…

Which brings us to FINANCES and more resolutions. I am not talking about resolutions though, because that would be weird at this point.

NO WEIRD ALLOWED

Is it weird that I had to spell check the word “Weird” just now? I have issues with ei. And ie. (ie. the word “Weird.)”

Have you guys seen Simple Mom’s newest book? Holy Hannah, I bought it yesterday on Amazon (it’s an e-book) and am EATING THAT BABY UP! It is called One Bite at a Time: 52 Projects for Making Life Simpler. I think I am going to try to tackle one project every week this year… but, since it is Simple Mom, there is no pressure to do one per week. And I don’t have to go in order. That’s why it’s SIMPLE. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE buy the book right now, guys. Because then we can do it together and talk about it every single freakin’ day of 2012 together! Buy it!

…Which brings us back to FINANCES and RESOLUTIONS.

Which reminds me, I have to go try to guess what our tax return is going to be so that I can get out of debt faster than my financial calculator is indicating. I hate that thing today. If my financial calculator were a wagon I would paint it puke color.

The end.

Happy New Year! Welcome to my blog. I hope you really, really like it here.

…yikes

p.s. My first New Year’s  Resolution is to write down my New Year’s Resolutions by March.
p.p.s. I suddenly feel much better about all of this. I am so glad we could have this talk.

Nothin' like a little crazy to nurse the baby to first thing in the morning! My projects this year involve learning how to sew, which so far entails getting the ironing board out and spending $100 on fabric. I think that the first week "back" from the holidays doesn't count. You actually have until Monday to consider your resolutions!

Loved Simple Mom's book! I think I picked like 5 things to do. Now I need to go back and re-read it. :) We used to live far away from family too (not as far as you though) and went through the same thing every Christmas for 11 years. Then, amazingly, my job was transferred back home. It's nice to be back, but bizarre for Christmas traveling to not be a big deal anymore.

Where did you get the Plex and Toodee dolls?  I've only been able to find Muno, Foofa & Brobee.
