“Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens”…. really, I couldn’t give a care about either of those things, but there are other items that really get my heart racing. Today I am linking up with The Nester’s “Favorite Things” Party and sharing with you some of the things that I use every day and LOVE (all under $30). My favorite things all cost WAY under $30—what does that say about me???
It would be appropriate to begin with my BIG ROLL O’ JUTE. Or maybe it is twine. I don’t know what to call it except, “Hello, Lover!”
I bought this roll of jute at Lowe’s or Home Depot. It was only $12 or something, but at the time, I felt like I was paying too much, because I only needed a little bit of jute for a simple project. But since then I have used this HUGE roll of jute for MANY things around the house, both functional and decorative. Together Mr. Jute and I have tied up bundles of yard waste, hung birthday cards, fancified boring things, and… other stuff. For example:
And this leads me to the next thing I love: using Picnik to create ridiculous things and then having them printed at Walgreens. Note I said Walgreens. Not CVS. At least here locally, the CVS’s produce terrible pictures. How much do you love the Yo Gabba Gabba postcards I made? It only took me a few minutes to create the Jack Black + DJ Lance Rock image with Picnik and then upload the image to Walgreens.com. They print within a half hour, typically.
Here’s another piece of sweet art I made recently: (click to download it)
The story goes like this: my older sister hates to be tickled. But, when we were little, I used to love to tickle her because I was a jerky 6-year old like that. Sibling love. She was sitting in our rocking chair, I tickled her, she slammed her elbow down on the arm rest, OUCH that hurt, her nose started bleeding, I laughed, she cried. I shall never forget.
I found this “If you tickle me I am not responsible for your injuries” saying on Pinterest, tweaked it with Picnik, and will NOT actually be giving it to big Sis for Christmas, because she hates tickling so much that she lovingly asked me not to give it to her. The funny thing is: that makes me laugh too, in a jerky 6-year old kind of way. Love ya sis!
If you would like the sign and saying too, just click the image and it will automatically download for you to print or edit.

I really love big drop earrings. I got my ears pierced for my TWENTY-FIFTH birthday and so I am kind of like a kid in a candy store with earrings. My most favorite-est earrings are from weird places like OldNavy.com and Tilly’s Skate shop. See the cream colored one? I lost it’s mate but refuse to get rid of it, it’s just too pretty! If you love me, buy me a matching earring from Tilly’s for Christmas and all will be right in the world again.
I have very little interest in REAL jewelry- pearls, diamonds, and gold, etc. I like ‘em big, wooden, turquoise, and loud. Thank you for coming tonight.
You could say I have an obsession with paper. I love paper. It is inspiring to me and often is the jumping off point for an entire room redesign in my house. More specifically, I really love Close To My Heart paper. I have been buying paper from their consultants for a few years now. I go to a monthly “scrap club” meeting at my friend Kris Brown’s house and we make cards or scrapbook page layouts. She provides the paper, the stamps, the ideas, etc. I provide ME, some $, my paper cutter, and try to bring some friends so that I can call it a “girls night out”. Perhaps the best part is that after each club night I come home with all the extra paper from the paper pack. With that paper pack I make… who knows what… EVERYTHING! Like:![]()
And: artwork. ![]()
Do you want to hear the story behind: “Welcome to our half bath- enjoy it to the fullest”??? Another day, my friends.
Ok, the last favorite thing I am going to share with you is local to my area, but I can’t NOT tell you about it. B&R Frozen Custards’ ice cream sandwiches. Behold:

If you live near me, you’ve GOT to try these things. Two reasons why I love them:
1) You don’t have to wait for them to make these for you. You walk in, grab some out of the freezer case, pay, and go home. It’s ALMOST as good as a drive-through.
2) They are only a buck a pop if you split them in two (they are REALLY large) and nobody in their right mind needs to eat a whole thing… except me yesterday. Their other yummies can be quite pricey. You know I love a good deal. These are a gooooood deal!
Ok, so that’s what I love. What do you love?
See The Nester’s post to read about a really cool “Favorite Things Gift Exchange” that Hayley @ The Tiny Twig did. Cool Idea!

Did you make your earring/jewelry holder? Can you show us the whole thing? I've been looking for an idea and the little snippet that you showed us is sorta inspiring me, BUT I'm not creative at all, so I basically need to see the whole thing to see how it should/could be recreated……if you don't mind of course?!?!?
You got it, girl! I'll do that soon! It's an open frame with copper wire wrapped around it. The end! But ill show you the whole thing soon :-)
That sounds like a really fun thing to make :) I can't wait to check it out
Yes that bathroom sign needs an explanation!
yes, i think jute is fantastic! it can be used for so many things! and think i need to get me one of those frozen custard sandwiches. hello.
Ang, You CRACK ME UP. I just wasted an hour (actually almost two) clicking and reading around this awesome blog.. and it was totally worth it. Not that I could do any of these handy projects or anything, but I love your voice.. do you know what I mean? Your blogger voice is so funny. Does Tom know you call him Manchild? My cousin calls his very cute and classy wive Otis. (I think that's worse.) Anyway, you inspire me. I need to get back into journaling (I only started for my far away family), but I'm way too lazy–I can't get dressed before my kids wake up and take pictures and upload everything.. much less make headboards and stromboli, but I like reading about yours. Smiley Face.
Juliette, I am sooo glad that I crack you up, because I love you to death and wish that we could be neighbors and kick it up in ridiculous ways whenever the moment moves us! Your family is AMAZING- your house… um, "neat-o"… and i spent about an hour stalking your daughter's pictures on facebook about a month ago. LOVE all her make-up skilz! (Does it scare you that people can stalk your daughter's facebook photos without being friends with her? (I just thought of that :-) Anyway, keep coming back here and talking to me!!! Let's get the fams together again soon! (for real, though…)
