Did You Know?

1. Did you know that I have never been to New York City? Or New York State? Or north of Pennsylvania?

2. Did you know that I have lived in the DC area for 3 years now and have planned 3 separate trips to the Big Apple? All of which were cancelled for really good, lame reasons at the last minute?

3. Did you know that I REALLY want to go to New York? And walk around and eat stuff and smell stuff (food?) and touch stuff (in stores?)

4. Did you know that if you put cow manure on your face as a young, pre-pubescent man, you will be sure to grow lots of facial hair as a man? This is why an old boyfriend of mine kept a jar of it in his room. Or so he said.

5. Did you know that I bought everything at Kohl’s tonight? Everything they had? With the explicit intention of only keeping 1 item from the whole lot? Maybe 2? or 4?

6. Did you know that my husband thinks I should go to Germany with him this Spring? But that I am scared to do big things like that? I protest, “Who’s gonna watch the kids?” He replies, “We’ll figure that out later!”… Men.

7. Did you know that the only 4 words I know in German are “guten”, “tag”, “bratwurst”, and “nine”?

8. Did you know that “nine” (meaning NO in German) is actually spelled “nein”? I was just checking to see if you knew that. You didn’t know that.

9. Did you know that we bought a trampoline on Craigslist (with net enclosure for only $75 total!) and when my kids jump on it they come in the house all wet from sweat? But when I jump on it I come in wet in different places. It makes me pee my pants. Okay.

10. Did you know that my baby tells me that he loves me now at bedtime? I say, “Nigh-nigh! Can you say nigh-nigh?” And he pulls his thumb out of his mouth and says, “nigh-nigh.” Then I say, “I love you. Can you say, ‘I love you’” At that point, he reluctantly pulls his thumb back out of his mouth (pop!) and says, “I wa wu.” And then I pee my pants again.

11. Did you know that today my 9 year-old daughter and 7 year-old son were playing rodeo? She was the bull and he was the cowboy. Except that she would stand up tall (more than a head taller than him and almost twice as much in weight) and he would hold on to her leg with all his might, mind, and strength. And then she would turn on Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never song and try to yank him off with all her might mind and strength whilst dancing. It was the funniest and stupidest thing they have ever come up with.

12. Did you know that whilst taking these pictures we started laughing so loud that the baby woke up crying? And wouldn’t say “I wa wu” to me about it?

13. Did you know that the point of this entire blog post was to tell you that I am going to New York City on Saturday??!! If you love NYC, please tell me what you think I should DEFINITELY do there. Oh, and I am only going to be there for 12 hours. Okay? Go!

Don’t forget the 10 Minute Monday link-up party scheduled for Monday afternoon! Take 10 minutes this weekend to tackle the nasty little chore you’ve been putting off for 2 months! Believe me, it feels so good to race around the house like your hair’s on fire and field questions like, “Hon… what is wrong? Is everything ok?” Response: I CAN’T TALK RIGHT NOW! AND PLEASE, YOU MAY ADDRESS ME AS “THE ROCKSTAR!”

See Monday’s post for more directions!

See you in New York!

Now that you're knocking NYC off your list, you should totally go to Germany, too. Alone time with your hubby in a gorgeous foreign country is SO worth the hassle of arranging child care. Believe me!

I've been to NYC twice, once as a long weekend with my hubby, once as a day trip when my mom was in town over Christmas. NYC to me is this awesome place you have to visit but once you get there it is total sensory overload and there is only one pace, FAST!

I love the Frommer's day-by-day travel guides. I'm cheap so I check them out at the library do some research and then check them out again right before the trip to slide into my purse. They have best of NYC in a day plans in there.

Favorite things…

you have to see Times Square but honestly it is overrated don't plan to spend too much time there. We ate some amzing Dim Sum at Ping's in Chinatown, I would highly recommend it, some of the best food I have ever eaten.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are very neat but you have to buy tickets in advance and even then it is SO busy. It took up about 5 hours so probably better for a longer trip.

The top of the Empire state building is cool but I thought overpriced and I hear the wait can be long (hubby and I went at like 10pm so it wasn't busy).

My absolute favorite thing about NYC is Broadway! I won tickets to Rock of Ages from someone's blog and the show was was fabulous!

St. Patrick's cathedral is really neat.

Take time to visit the World Trade Center site (there is also the biggest Whole Foods near there with an amazing selection of prepared foods).

Wandering around Central Park and seeing the castle was fun.

Also there are some great museums.

HTH!

Oh yeah and go to Germany!!!

Just… eat your way through the city. All of it. I love Chinatown, and all that is there, but particularly loved Joe's Shanghai soup dumplings. Wandering through Little Italy is awesome (esp popping into corner stores with fresh breads & cheeses & meats!)

Fun & quick food places are Pommes Frites (just french fries, with 4372389 sauces. Good for snack or post-bar http://www.pommesfrites.ws/), and S'Mac (fast-casual or take-out mac n cheese. Think Noodles & Co, only better. And just mac n cheese: http://www.smacnyc.com/... they have 2 side-by-side locations- one for sit down/casual and the other for take out.)

Cafeteria is a fun place. Nicer than the two, er, stoner food options I just gave you… http://www.cafeteriagroup.com/ Their mac n cheese trio is AWESOME (I have a weakness) and they serve food 24hrs a day. Definitely good food and good drinks.

I am blanking on all other places I've been… only remember the food and not the names! Whoops.

my stomach says that this is the best comment i've ever gotten on this blog. i felt like i was eating my way through it.

my mind says that the reason why i bought everything they had on the racks at kohls last night and brought it home to try on is because the mirrors in the dressing rooms there were telling me i was too fat to look good in NYC.

so how do my mind and stomach get along with all of this great food-related info? apparently, the diet starts monday.

thanks for the great recommendations!

I think you should either get a cupcake from magnolia bakery (i've never been there but always wanted to go) OR you should go to serendipity 3 for frozen hot chocolate. don't get food there- it isn't that great and it's over priced, but the desserts are awesome.

although- rumor says that they are opening a serendipity 3 in georgetown, so you could always wait for that.

Other than that- get tickets to a show from the TKTS stand in times square! you can get cheap(er) tickets there… don't limit yourself to musicals- there are some fantastic plays out there too!

BUT my all-time NYC favorite thing to do is the Met. But if you only have 12 hours, you may not have enough time for a big ole museum. HAVE FUN!

Oh Angie! You lucky little girl, you! The last time I went to NYC was in 2000! We went to the Empire State Building (wowza!) and we were taking pictures and someone said "hey, there's the twin towers." I didn't even turn to look because I didn't know what it was (yeppers, I'm a redneck)!! I don't think you can go "wrong" anywhere in NYC, everything is fun, flashy and fabulous…just like you! Enjoy yourself and blow the limit off the credit card! :)

OK…I live in California. 4 1/2 years ago we approximately 5 hours in NYC. Me, hubby, 9 month at the time and parents. We went to the Empire State Building. It was the coolest thing!

Last year I took my daughter…she was 12. We did the open top tour bus with a stop at the Empire State Building…because she was with her grandma when I went the 1st time.

She hated the Empire State Building! She found out she is afraid of heights.

What I REALLY, REALLY wish I would have done. To see the Today Show and stand out in Rockefeller Center and get on TV and wave to my family!

The tour bus tho….I really recommend! We saw a little bit of everything…odd things were pointed out that we didn't know about.

I LOVE THE PICTURES THAT WE TOOK FROM THE TOUR BUS!

Glad to know that I am not the only one that can't jump on a trampoline without peeing her pants. Add sneezing and coughing to that list and we are in business. I thought I was the only one who thought kegel exercises was for wussies.
I read that your Husband wants you to go to Germany with him. You should, I live here. Now doesn't that just put the cherry on top?
I have also adopted your 10 min Mondays and I would have linked up to your post but I just now saw it and I am in bed now seeing as it is 23:20 in Ludwigshafen, Germany and I am tired. Next Monday I will be on a plane to the States so no linky there either.
Sooo…. That was a long comment. Love your Blog!! German Julia
